Frequently Asked Questions

What is your experience with horses? What got you into equine therapy?

Growing up in southern California, horses were a significant part of my childhood. My uncle owned an Arabian stallion, the first horse I ever rode, and often visited with him in the canyons of Malibu - some of my fondest childhood memories. I then spent the next decade riding horses at various local ranches, until a horseback riding accident left me with permanent injuries. While I mostly stopped riding for a while due to this, my love for horses never waned - in fact, I found I appreciated them even more when sport wasn’t involved. In my tumultuous teen years, I became acquainted with local horse communities where I could go to spend time with horses on my own time. I’d always leave those outings feeling rejuvenated. Years later, after volunteering at a hippotherapy center in Chatsworth, I decided I wanted to become a therapist for children, and someday incorporate horses into my therapeutic work. When I became an associate therapist, I became certified in equine therapy under the EAGALA model. Today, I draw upon various schools of equine therapy in my current work. I love helping my young clients explore the healing connection between humans and horses that helped me so much in my own youth and throughout my life.

I see you take insurance. Can I use insurance for equine therapy sessions?

Because insurance companies don’t typically cover equine-assisted therapy, equine therapy sessions currently are private-pay only. That said, I’m happy to give you a superbill you can submit to your insurance to see if they’ll reimburse a portion.

What is your current rate for equine therapy sessions?

Equine therapy sessions are available in 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute formats depending on each client’s individual needs and comfort level. Current rates are $90 for 30 minutes, $140 for 45 minutes, and $190 for 60 minutes. Equine therapy groups generally range from $70–100 per person depending on the nature and length of the group. I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients who may need a bit more financial flexibility.

I don’t know much about horses and don’t have any riding experience. Can I still participate in equine therapy?

Absolutely! I provide ground-based equine therapy, which means no riding is required at all. The focus is on building connection, awareness, and regulation through mindful interaction with the horses,  all at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

For individual talk therapy, what insurances do you currently accept?

I am currently in-network with several major insurance providers, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, Kaiser SoCal, and Quest Behavioral Health. If you’re unsure whether your insurance is covered, you’re always welcome to contact me and I can help verify your benefits.

What ages and demographics do you typically work with?

I specialize in working with children (ages 8–12), adolescents (13–18), and young adults in their twenties and thirties. Much of my work focuses on clients who identify as highly sensitive, neurodivergent, creative, “black sheep”, or who struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship patterns, or insecure attachment.
